fter three years with the National Youth Theatre, Karl started work as a professional actor 28 years ago, making his professional debut in the You've Been Gone A Long Time Alfie (BBC). This was shortly followed by the film That’ll be the Day and he went on to co­star in the sequel Stardust. Amongst a list of 11 films in which he has also co-starred are Party Party and Babylon.

For radio he has featured in many plays, but will be most recognised for his lead role in Radio 4's King St Junior which finished a twelve-year run in November 1998.  He then recorded another comedy drama series, Coming Alive, for Radio 4 in which he took the lead role of Terry King, which was broadcast in January/February '99.

Karl's theatre work has seen him appear in over fifty plays, a trilogy of which were written especially for him by Barrie Keeffe and were staged at Stratford East. He has toured the Middle East and New Zealand, and directed as well as starred in two tours of Australia.

In 1988 he played the title role of Bill Snibson in the all-singing, all-dancing Me and My Girl at the Adelphi and broke box office records for that year.

Karl has guest-starred in many TV shows, such as Minder, The Sweeney, Van def Valk, The Professionals and has also made some regular appearances in Get Some in, A Fine Romance, Fox, Up Line and People Like Us.

It was, however, as Jacko in the popular BBC series Brush Strokes that brought him most attention. That was followed by lead roles in Mulberry and Bad Boys also for the BBC. 1998 saw the transmission of "Babes in the Wood" for Carlton (ITV) in which Karl starred alongside Samantha Janus, Denise Van Outen and Natalie WaIters. A Christmas Special was recorded and broadcast.

In 1999 Karl went on to record the second series of Babes in the Wood (eight episodes) for Carlton during the early summer, which was transmitted in July/August, followed by the recording of a second series of Coming Alive for BBC Radio 4.

His recent television work includes the lead in a threepart special for “The Bill”, guest starring in “The Last Detective” and “Mile High”

He guest stars in the film “The truth about love” with Dougray Scott, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jimi Mistry to be released on Valentine’s Day 2005.
